Why Choose Eco Fabrics Like Organic cotton & Hemp?

As we celebrate Earth Month this April, I wanted to take a moment to discuss the significant impact that choosing organic cotton and other eco fabrics can have on both your health and the environment. By opting for organic cotton and other non-toxic fabrics, you're not only prioritizing your well-being but also supporting sustainable farming practices that reduce harmful chemicals and promote biodiversity.

We believe that whilst period undies are a wonderful invention for helping reduce plastic and other waste in our oceans and landfill, we must strive to continually improve, and so that is why we mostly choose to use Eco Fabrics, like organic cotton (and we are soon to be expanding our line to include hemp blended options).  Using Eco fabrics just completes the circle and creates a truly sustainable industry.

Cheap supermarket period underwear made from regular cotton are only addressing one side of the sustainability goal.  We strive to give our users options that are truly sustainable, by thinking about the processes used to make the fabric. Regular cotton is one of the great evils of the environment, using mountains of pesticides and oceans of water. Organic cotton still uses lots of water, but it’s natural, and needs no chemicals to convert into fabric. Plus, our organic cotton is fair-trade, bringing much-needed fair industry to third-world countries. What’s not to love?

Bamboo has a bit of a grey area too, whilst it is a rapidly growing, renewable plant, that uses less water than conventional cotton growing, it requires the use of caustic chemicals to break it down from plant to pants, so unless this is done in a closed loop system, there are other environmental impacts to consider with the release of these chemicals into waterways and oceans.

Hemp is the superstar of eco fabrics, it requires no pesticides, herbicides or fertilisers and enriches the soil it leaves behind (much like weeds do).  It also requires no chemicals to spin it into cloth.  It is also the strongest natural fibre, so is incredibly durable and gets softer with every wash and wear.  So watch this space as we will be releasing a new line later this year.

Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond just the materials we use – it's ingrained in every step of our production and is also considered in our day-to-day packing and waste management operations.

Join us in making a positive difference this Earth Month.  Choosing organic cotton period underwear is one way to make a difference.  Do not discount the difference that one person can make.  Tell your friends what you do and your enthusiasm for our planet will certainly rub off on them too.  You’d be surprised.  Together, we can pave the way for a healthier future for ourselves and generations to come.
